Over sized denim jeans were all over the runway for spring 2015. Boyfriend, harem and trouser styles all made appearances and lucky for us, lots of stores are carrying the same styles this season. A super easy to wear trend and a fresh way to bring in a new season!

During these cold winter months, it can be a challenge to entertain and occupy the time of a little one all day, every day. When it’s just too cold for those precious trips to the park or playground, try one of these fun indoor activities with your little one.

1. Build a fort! We all did this as kids and loved it, so we know your little ones will too! Grab an old sheet or blanket and the kitchen chairs and build a fort with your toddler. Pile all their favorite toys inside and the change of scenery will keep their attention when not much else will.
2. Chef for a day. Porter LOVES helping Dana cook or bake! This activity is great for a toddler ages 2 and up because they can really engage and help. Dana usually sticks to simple recipes she knows by heart. Baked goods or meals that cook in the crockpot are great options because you’re throwing it all in one bowl, leaving you with minimal clean up. Banana bread and lentil soup are two great go to’s on a cold winter day.
3. Go for a mid-day swim. Even if it’s too cold to venture out to the Y, your toddler can still enjoy a mid-day swim. Fill up the bath tub, add a little bubble bath and let your kids have a blast. Freezer molds in fun shapes are great for freezing ice and letting your kids watch them dissolve in the warm bath. Target also has these fun, bath appropriate crayons for your kids to play with during bath time/swim time.

One of my favorite trends is mixing prints. It’s a fun way to add color or texture to an outfit, and a perfect trend to incorporate in to your littles’ ensemble. Mixing prints does, however, take some thought and intentionality as it can sometimes go array. When mixing prints there are a few key tips to follow: keep the overall palette of prints similar and think geometric. Stripes are the neutral of prints and can be easily paired with another print. Scale is also key. Pair a larger scale print with a smaller, more subdued print to avoid an overwhelming overall look. Mixing prints is such a fun way to dress your little and bring in color and shapes without them looking too babyish.

Looking through this years pre-fall lines has me beyond excited. I always love a good retro look, but some of these pre-fall 2015 lines have perfected the 70’s inspired look. Some of my favorite trends were culottes and floor length dresses and skirts. Denim was in almost every show this year with feminine, flow-y silhouettes and mid or high rise cuts. And, in case you’re over the skinny jean trend and ready for a more forgiving, mom friendly pair of go-to jeans, you’re in luck. A Read more…
