I first stumbled across First Shelter completely by accident in the Scoutmob Shoppe, but have since fallen in love with these hand-dyed beauties.  I am seriously obsessed and honestly mesmerized by these insanely gorgeous quilts.  Each is totally different, but has quilt-maker Christy Nelson’s unique stamp of artistry.  She calls the building blocks of First Shelter her “modern design sensibility combined with organic, hand-dyed materials.”  Her goal is to create pieces that are sustainable to the environment as well as cherished for generations.  Although her patterns are bent toward modern geometric shapes and angles, the craftsmanship and passion evident in each quilt comes from a long line of southern crafters, including her mom.  As if I didn’t already love these enough, it’s even better that the brand is born out of a family and has a great story.  What results are exquisite and fresh yet inviting quilts that you will want for yourself and your children, and your children’s children, and your children’s children’s children…you get the picture!

All of their pieces are handmade in Brooklyn and unlike machine made ceramics, no two pieces are alike. From classic Read more…
