cultured. - A Collaboration: Afia and West Africa

The woman behind Afia, Megan Sebold and Elizabeth Cloyd, “aim to shatter misconceptions about the aesthetics of sustainable fashion (not another silk-screened organic t-shirt), and production in Africa (it is a smart business initiative not a charity project).”  Through a mix of African textiles and American trends these two have created Afia.  With a heavy focus on sustainability, they work with sewing cooperatives committed to fair wages in Ghana.  This then offers jobs and dignity to more artisans. I absolutely LOVE their commitment to fashionable products and smart sustainable business! Their work actually reminds me a lot of the awesome things going on at Lem Lem!  Couldn’t be more excited to see fashion businesses aiming to partner with overlooked artisans all over the world!
